It's been 17 years since Natasha Richardson's tragic death at the age of 45, and it's also been over 30 years since she tied the knot with actor Liam Neeson.
Natasha and Liam, now 73, married in the summer of 1994 and welcomed two children together, sons Micheál and Daniel, before her untimely death in 2009 from a skiing accident.
On May 11, her birthday, Natasha's sister Joely Richardson took to Instagram with a tender tribute to her late sibling, looking back on her marriage to and relationship with Liam.
"11th of May is forever my sister's birthday, even though she left this earthly plane 17 yrs ago," she penned, soundtracking the post by a rendition of Sibelius' Symphony No. 5. "She and I loved how rousing this piece of music is – it would make her smile that I've picked it."
"All these pictures are in public domain (screen shot), and with the recent 90s revival they kept popping up on my phone," she continued. Joely, 61, added a photo of the pair lovingly gazing at each other on their wedding day, one of them papped at the airport, and a third throwback of them simply looking at each other.
Joely wrote: "The day Tasha married Liam Neeson was one of the happiest of her life (the tenderness of her upward gaze) – she couldn't believe it, and we danced til' dawn."
"Oh the glamour of this couple, their warmth and humour. I love the last photo as it's full of mischief, and utterly her. Seize the day, she did," she concluded. Fans and followers flooded the comments section with tender memories and tributes to Natasha.
"Sending you love and light and thank you for such a beautiful post," one wrote, with another adding: "I was working with Liam just when they had their first son here in Dublin & she was so stunning & glamorous." A third also said: "What a beautiful and moving memory. Your sister is truly still with you and all who loved her. Thank you for sharing this with us, beautiful."
Joely, an actress as well, has frequently shared some of her recollections of life with her older sister, including a set of childhood photos she unearthed back in November, elaborating on her role as a protector for her baby sister.
"Stumbled upon these photos, me and my big sister Natasha. Tasha passed on 16 years ago. I was struck by how sad I look," Joely remembered in her caption. "I showed them to my Ma and she said 'ah but see in the 2nd one you're happy again as you have your Tash'."
"T and I could fight like the billy-o, but she was always my protector," she continued. "Oh I miss you as I creak towards older age. Hours before her accident, I was at work, and a hearse drove by. 'It's the ones left behind I feel for' I said out loud. Rest in peace they say, or more recently 'rest in power'. I say 'Scintillate away' dear loved ones, we all move together x."
