Keith Urban is entering a new chapter in his life, nine months after his shocking break-up from his wife, Nicole Kidman.
The celebrated musician's new album, "Flow State," was released on June 12, and it wasn't what he, or his fans were expecting.
The album is a far cry from his country music roots and is instead, a collection of laid-back sounds of classic yacht rock tunes, including an original with Michael McDonald.
New album
In a press release, Keith said: “Creating FLOW STATE was one of the most unexpected albums I’ve ever made. In a lot of ways, it felt like the whole album had an energy and life of its own and I was just following where it lead me."
He continued: "The songs we recorded were all so natural though, and I discovered a lot about how much they’ve helped shape my own music. There’s a reason these songs have stood the test of time, and equally so, the need for their spirit of fully disconnecting from 'the grid' and swimming in blue sky simplicity."
The album features ten covers, and additional collaborations with Little Big Town and John Mayer.
In an interview with The Independent, he confessed he didn't see the pivot to this genre of music either, but thoroughly enjoyed the making of it.
Divorce from Nicole Kidman
His new music comes at a challenging time in his life. He and Nicole's divorce was finalized in January, and the court documents stated that Nicole would be the primary residential parent of their two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 15, and would care for them for 306 days of the year.
Keith has not been seen with his two daughters since before the split was announced.
While neither Nicole nor Keith have spoken directly about the divorce, the Babygirl actress told Variety that she hoped to move her family through the major life change.
"I'm always going to be moving toward what's good," she said. "What I'm grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That's that. Everything else I don't discuss out of respect."
