Happy birthday Tom Hanks!
One of Hollywood's most beloved stars marks his big 70th birthday on July 9, celebrating the day with his and wife Rita Wilson's annual tradition – a beach vacation.
The pair usually share gushing tributes to each other from tropical locales, and this year, the actor shared one of himself taking a plunge from seemingly a boat into the water.
Watch Tom commemorate the big 7-0 in the video below…
"This guy turns 70 TODAY," he captioned his post, then plugging his all-day radio station with: "Great music. Good coffee. Good cause! Listen to @bossradio66 for a 20% off code to @hanks!"
Rita, who celebrates her own 70th birthday in October, took to her Instagram page with a snap of her husband sporting a rugged stubble from their trip. "Happy Birthday, love of my life! I love you so much!!!"
He may be marking seven decades of living, but his career isn't slowing down one bit. Tom is currently still in theatres (as of writing) voicing Woody the Cowboy in Toy Story 5, already one of 2026's top grossing films. And he has several other highly-anticipated projects already in production.
Speaking with TIME recently about what roles he's willing to take on now, Tom mused: "On one hand, it has to be fun. On one hand, it has to be good. But the final analysis is: it's got to be worth telling the story. Unless you're somehow illuminating the human condition, I'd rather reorganize my notebook closet."
"Any job that comes down the pike, it's like: Why in the world would you spend your time doing this? And that might sound weird when talking about Toy Story 5, but I'm gonna tell you something right now: Toy Story 5 is beautiful," he continued.
He will play American president Abraham Lincoln in the upcoming live action/stop motion film Lincoln in the Bardo. "I just read the book because it's George Saunders. He's a genius," the two-time Oscar winner told the publication. "It took me about 80 pages until I finally figured out what was going on, but oh my God!"
"When the time came to do it with [director] Duke Johnson, who is an animator par excellence, the thing that struck me was: I do not play so much this grand historical figure on the $5 bill. I play a grieving father that has lost his son."
He continued: "There is nobody on the Earth, I think, that will not be moved by some aspect of that. Abraham Lincoln's son died in 1861. There was no hint of the end of the Civil War coming along. But he lost his boy. What does that do to anybody? And how do you continue on with the task at hand? That's a beautiful question."
And as it turns out, the Saving Private Ryan star is actually related to Lincoln. "His mother was Nancy Hanks. His cousin was Dennis Hanks. They were from Kentucky, as are my ancestors," he explained. "It's a nice claim to fame to have in fifth grade."
