NBC News anchor Vicky Nguyen is giving fans a taste of what it's like to be on the receiving end of some harsh viewer feedback.
The consumer reporter and frequent TODAY correspondent, 47, made an appearance on the NBC morning show on Friday, July 17 to explain a new report on best grilling practices.
© Getty ImagesJoined by Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Laura Jarrett and Carson Daly, Vicky explained some of the top tips for checking meat temperatures, with Carson, 53, then adding that through his and Al's expertise, he also had some tips on the best ways to use a meat thermometer.
Al, 71, then pointed out the exact same point was also in Vicky's report, and she quipped in response: "Thank you for mansplaining that again, Carson," which left Carson and Craig with their mouths agape, Al loudly exclaiming "woah!" and Laura in hysterics. It was clear immediately, though, that the moment was all in good fun, with Vicky playfully punching Carson's arm and then embracing him as she giggled, and the latter also smiling at her to signal it was all good as the others joked about the matter too.
Not to one viewer, though, who sent what can only be described as a "strongly worded email" to the consumer reporter. On Monday, July 20, Vicky shared a screenshot of the email, which began with: "You owe Mr. Daly an apology for your 'mansplaining' comment."
The response went on to call her work "INCREDIBLY patronizing," and went so far as to say that her co-hosts should say in response to her reports: "Thanks for elite-splaining that to the unwashed masses."
"It's hard out here for a consumer reporter," Vicky simply captioned her post, to which many of her fans and colleagues jumped to show their support. Chief among them was Carson himself, who commented: "I see you got my letter! Love ya Vicky."
Al also wrote: "Vicky, Deborah's mom has the saying that fits for this person: Bless his/her heart!" with NBC's health and lifestyle expert Joy Bauer quipping: "When I see you this week, remind me to tell you about the time I said 'ex-presso' instead of espresso on air."
Vicky punctuated the entire matter by sharing a clip of the comment itself, and wrote alongside it: "After this comment, a viewer sent a detailed email expressing his/her severe displeasure with my reporting and wanted me to apologize. Thankfully Carson weighed in and we are not beefing."

She also expressed her gratitude for the TODAY fans who quickly showed their support for her. "And then so many of you TODAY fans rallied and shared a ton of really kind messages and comments that let me and my team know that our reporting has helped you learn tips to save money and live smarter, healthier, scam free lives."
