Jessica Alba has opened up about moving her family into "another space" as she reflected on her next chapter. The actress discussed the change in a new interview with People about the fourth season of the Roku Original series.
The 45-year-old is preparing for her eldest daughter, Honor Warren, to leave for college this fall. She compared her family life to a similar scenario from the premiere episode of Honest Renovations season 4.
Preparing to send her son Jayden off to college, single mom and widow Susan Suarez got a helping hand from design duo Jessica and Lizzy Mathis. Together, they transformed his New Jersey bedroom into a stylish retreat for return trips home – a makeover that inspired Jessica to rethink her own kids' spaces.
© Getty Images"We were really excited about re-imagining [Jayden’s] room because being able to take it from a kid room to a young adult – that was awesome," she shared. "And I was thinking about that even for my kids, because we’re moving into another space, and just what’s that next phase for each one of them."
Jessica shared that she wants to focus on designing her kids' rooms so that they will "grow with them, so it doesn’t feel so dated."
"Susan and I are very much in the same camp here, but her son is going to a school nearby and he’s coming home every weekend. That’s a little different," she explained. Honor will study at Yale University and move to Connecticut from California.
© Instagram"It hasn’t really hit me personally, but I think for any parent, just that milestone… It’s intense," she added. "I don’t think you can prepare for it. You just have to tackle it when it happens."
"Taking it to the East Coast, that was a big difference for us. We’ve always done our renovations on the West Coast, and I just think the vibe of the East Coast and the square footage is so different. The homes are much older and there’s so much heritage, and you have to really honor the architecture," Jessica explained of the new series.

Last year, Jessica listed her farmhouse-style property for a staggering $18,995,000. The actress and her ex-husband, Cash Warren, purchased the Beverly Hills abode back in 2017 for $10 million.
Back in 2019, Jessica opened the doors to her property in an interview with Architectural Digest. "We wanted a place to watch our kids play and grow up," she told the magazine at the time.
© Getty ImagesFollowing 18 months of renovations to achieve the perfect blend of elegant interiors with a "kid-friendly" vibe, the home was completed. "I just wanted to make sure the house, regardless of all of the beautiful materials and everything that we were gonna use in the house and the colors, that it was also kid-friendly and trying to use as many natural materials as possible," she shared.
The nearly 9,000-square-foot house boasted seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms on 1.85 acres of land. With the help of interior design duo Kathleen and Tommy Clements of Clements Design, the home was transformed with modern furnishings and the living room was bathed in warm tones, wood fibres, and organic textures.
