Glenn Close has a reassuring message for fans who questioned why she was using a cane during her recent New York outing: "Don't worry. I'm feeling great," she said.
The 79-year-old actress revealed she has undergone a complete hip replacement, explaining the reason behind the walking aid in a personal Instagram video.
Speaking from her desk, Glenn wore round black-and-red glasses and a brown sweater over an olive collared shirt, with her white hair swept back. A small patch on her forehead prompted an explanation of its own before she addressed her recovery.
"Hi everyone. I have my frownie on because I'm working at my desk and I frown, and frownies help," she began.
"But I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all your love and to explain why I have a cane."
Glenn Close reveals hip replacement after New York outing
Glenn's update follows an appearance using a cane in New York on Friday, October 16. The actress smiled for photographers in a blue-and-cream New York Knights varsity jacket, a nostalgic nod to the fictional baseball team in her 1984 film The Natural.
Now, she has explained that her walking aid is part of her recovery from surgery. "I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement," she said. "Found out that my left hip was in really bad shape, and my whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way."
Glenn did not share when she underwent the operation, but made clear she was already looking forward to her next commitments.
Glenn Close shares plans for London and New York appearances
The actress hopes her recovery will allow her to travel later this month, with appearances for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and All's Fair on her calendar.
"So I'm hobbling around on a cane for now, but I hope come the 26th I'll be on a plane for London to be there for the opening of Hunger Games in London, Sunrise on the Reaping, and then back to New York for the opening of All's Fair," she explained.
Glenn is setting herself a more modest goal than returning immediately to every activity. "So I hope to be fully present there and maybe not running around, you know, going up mountains, but at least my good old self."
Glenn Close receives support from famous friends

The actress finished her update by reassuring followers and acknowledging the loved ones helping her through her recovery.
"So love to everyone. Don't worry. I'm feeling great. I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me, and look forward to all the adventures coming. So love to everyone. Bye."
