Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd is recognizable for his iconic white hair, but of course the acclaimed actor didn't always look that way. Pictures of Christopher during this time are rare, but one yearbook picture online showcases his handsome features that went on to make him a superstar.

As a fresh-faced high schooler in the 1950s, Christopher was known for his dark hair that was styled in a classic look for the time, part pompadour with the hair swept off the face, and part Ivy League, a preppy look that featured a side part.

As a high school student, Christopher already loved the movies, and in 1958, as a senior, he asked his English teacher, Craig Matheson, for help starting a drama club at their school, Staples High School.

The club became known as the Staples Players, and it remains a thriving part of the Connecticut school, almost 70 years on.

That experience led Christopher to New York City and Broadway, and after 10 years in the theater, he made his way to Hollywood. His first film role was psychiatric patient Max Taber in the Oscar-winning movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

He also appeared in the sitcom Taxi, winning two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and in 1985 took on the role that would make him a household name: the eccentric inventor Emmett "Doc" Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy alongside Michael J. Fox and Lea Thompson

Christopher turned 88 on October 22, 2026, and marked the birthday with a video, singing. "I told you when this baby hits 88, you're going to see some serious s**t."

The actor was sitting at a table on a balcony, with a stunning coastal view behind him. Lea was among those to wish him a happy birthday, writing: "Happy birthday, my dear friend."

Chevy Chase commented with several heart emojis.

Christopher never welcomed any children, but has a stepson named Jack from his current wife, Lisa Loiacono.  Lisa and Christopher met when she was his real estate agent in 2012, helping him and his ex-wife Jane Walker Wood sell their Montecito home. They married in 2016.

He was previously Catharine Boyd in 1959 – they divorced in 1971 – and actress Kay Tornborg, whom he was married to between 1974 and 1987.

His third marriage to Carol Ann Vanek lasted two years, and he was also married to screenwriter Jane from 1992 to 2005.

Lisa and Christopher are close with Jane and her new husband, including quarantining together in 2020; in 2021, Lisa revealed she often goes hiking with Jane.
