As speculation reaches fever pitch over who will become the new James Bond, Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney has received a major seal of approval to step into the franchise as 007's next leading lady.

Trina Parks, who made cinematic history as the the first Black Bond girl, Thumper, opposite Sean Connery in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever, has thrown her full support behind the Euphoria star, praising her talent and modern appeal.

Owning her sexual identity

Speaking to The Telegraph, Trina explained why the in-demand 29-year-old actress would make a "wonderful" companion opposite the world's most famous secret agent.

"She has done quite a range of acting things and basically has got ownership of her sexual identity," she told the outlet. "Not only is she a talented actress, but has this Hollywood classic kind of style and poise, which really works for her projects and brand."

The veteran star highlighted that modern audiences expect a very different dynamic between 007 and the women in his orbit compared to past eras of cinema.

"I feel for modern cinema and film-making and the future of Bond, audiences want to see a woman opposite Bond who is independent and has ownership of her sexuality — Sydney has those qualities," she added.

The race to secure the keys to the Aston Martin has narrowed considerably. Frontrunners include Callum Turner and Jack Lowden who have both been heavily linked to the final audition rounds, while eagle-eyed fans have recently claimed to have cracked the identity of a third "mystery" actor joining them in screen tests for the leading role.

It has been a whirlwind year for Sydney, who is now one of Hollywood's hardest-working multi-hyphenated stars.
