Monaco has a new princess.

Prince Albert of Monaco has wed Charlene Wittstock.

The former Olympic swimmer from South Africa will from this day onwards be known as Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco.

Some 80 guests – including Albert's sisters Caroline and Stephanie and Charlene's parents Michael and Lynette – watched the couple say "je veux" in the red silk damask-draped throne room of the palace.

As they said "Oui" the thousands following the civil ceremony on giant screens erected in the palace courtyard clapped and cheered in jubilation.

Charlene looked elegant in a sky-blue suit, her hair pulled back into an elegant chignon.
