Hairy moment for William as he handles giant spider

Hairy moment for William as he handles giant spider

He was there to open the London History Museum's new £78 million Darwin Centre and declare his love of nature. But Prince William got a little more than he bargained for.

The future king had a fear facing moment when he was asked if he wanted to hold an 8cm long Mexican Red Kneed Tarantula.

"Oh, I would love to," said the 27-year-old royal, though when he was given the hairy arachnid to hold, his face suggested otherwise.

William later spoke of his "awe and wonder" upon first visting the museum as a child with his mother Princess Diana.

"That whole experience sparked in me a love of the natural world which has stayed with me, and still grows within me," he said.
