Chris Pine pleads guilty to DUI charges

Monday March 17, 2014

Chris Pine has pleaded guilty to DUI in New Zealand, a week after the charges were first filed.

The Star Trek actor was in New Zealand filming Z for Zachariah with Oscar-nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor, and was pulled over after a wrap party during a routine drink-driving operation.

During the hearing at the Ashburton District Court, the 33-year-old American was $93 New Zealand dollars ($79) and had his New Zealand driver's license suspended for six months.

Police told the court that a blood test found Pine's blood-alcohol level was 0.11 percent, which is over New Zealand's legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Chris reportedly stood silent throughout the proceedings, allowing his lawyer to speak on his behalf.

Entering the plea, his lawyer, Marilyn Gilchrist, told the judge that Pine acknowledged he'd made the wrong decision to drive that night.

Gilchrist added the negative publicity had put his acting contracts in jeopardy and that he had suffered emotionally and professionally.

The judge accepted that Pine felt "entirely remorseful."

The actor signed autographs as he left the court.
