Vanessa Redgrave and William Hurt are to star in Ralph Fiennes' film adaptation of Coriolanus, the Shakespearean classic about how power corrupts.
The Oscar-nominated actor will take the title role in the movie, which will mark his directorial debut.
"People who have read (it) think it's a page-turner," said the leading man at the Cannes film festival. "I want it to be an edge-of-the-seat film."
Citing Baz Luhrmann's Romeo And Juliet, Ralph explained his aim was to make The Bard accessible. "I don't want it to be in that Shakespeare voice that puts you off," said The Constant Gardener star.
Veteran actress Vanessa will take the role of Coriolanus' mother Volumnia, while a newcomer plays his wife Virgilia
