Rory McIlroy returns home to a hero's welcome

He's being hailed as Britain's Tiger Woods, and at the age of 22 Rory McIlroy is already celebrating his first major title.

The Northern Irish golfer's sensational US Open win has put him on course to become the richest British sportsman ever.

Now at the top of the leaderboard for potential earnings over the next 20 years, he's likely earn more than David Beckham - said to be worth £135 million.

Rory arrived back in his home country on Wednesday and received a hero's welcome at his local golf club, Holywood.

"It feels good, it feels great. It's nice to be able to call myself a major champion," he said.

"I've got three weeks off and then the British Open so I want to take it easy and let it sink in."

The new world number four is looking to use his down time to hang out at Wimbledon and keep a close eye on Andy Murray's progress.
