A common cause – the protection of children – brought together a member of the British royal family and one of Ireland's music heart-throbs in Dublin this week, when Princess Anne mingled with singer Ronan Keating at a charity ball.

The Princess Royal was a guest of honour at the Irish Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Children (ISPCC) gala, held at the Berkley Court Hotel. It was there the Queen's only daughter met up with the former Boyzone vocalist, to help raise thousands of pounds for needy youngsters across the country.

Princess Anne's evening out was just one event on her agenda during a two-day visit to Ireland. She is set to travel Limerick – where she'll meet with the city's mayor and visit the local university – before returning to Dublin to tour an equestrian centre and a local hospital.
