Despite the recent upheavals in her private life – she and husband Prince Joachim are currently divorcing - Denmark's enormously popular Princess Alexandra continues to keep up her charity activities.

The Hong Kong-born princess, who turned 40 this year, attended 50th anniversary celebrations for UNICEF on Wednesday. She is the president of the organisation in Denmark.

Alexandra spends a great deal of time in the public eye and serves as the patron of 21 different groups, including the Danish Association for the Blind and a support group for abused women with children.

Renowned for her dress sense, on this occasion the princess was classically elegant in a black top worn under a sharply tailored jacket accessorised with a scarlet shawl.
