The Spanish royals have marked the entry into their ranks of the new crown princess by sending out a Christmas card with all their portraits on it.
Princess Letizia, who married Crown Prince Felipe in a lavish May ceremony, has taken to her new role with relish: the former newscaster was already accustomed to the cameras when her engagement was announced, and any lingering signs of nerves disappeared as the Spanish people took her into their hearts.
The prince and princess have had a travel-packed year but will be spending the festive season in traditional style with Felipe's family. The royals have already kicked off their Christmas in their usual way, by gathering at the La Zarzuela Palace outside Madrid to celebrate the Infanta Elena's 41st birthday on December 20.
King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia are joined this year by all three of their children plus their five grandchildren for the holiday period. Spirits will be running particularly high amongst the close-knit family after the news that the Infanta Cristina is expecting her fourth child.
