Due to give birth to her third child in December, the princess had cancelled her royal engagements - including a state visit to Sweden - throughout much of September.

It had been reported that doctors had advised Mette-Marit to lighten her agenda because she was suffering from low blood pressure.

Crown Prince Haakon later acknowledged that, though the princess had not been feeling her best, neither her health, nor that of the baby, was in jeopardy. "It's been uncomfortable, but not dangerous," he was quoted as saying.
