William enjoys festive bash in in-laws' teepee

02 JANUARY 2012 After sailing through what must have been a nerve-wracking first Christmas at the royals' traditional Sandringham gathering, the Duchess of Cambridge was able to let down her glossy chestnut mane at a party in her parents' back garden.

Kate and Prince William joined her sister for the shindig in the quiet village of Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Pippa Middleton had hired a 'kata' – a teepee used by the Sami people of Lapland for cooking, smoking fish and as a shelter from heavy snow.

The events planner hired the tent, featuring a dancefloor and seating, at a cost of £3000.

Prince Harry was absent, though. He was in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier, ringing in the New Year at his friend Guy Pelly's new nightclub Public along with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
