THE HONEYMOON – Birkhall, Scotland / page 2
Built in 1715, the privately owned residence was acquired by the Royal Family in 1849. The building has a long and rich history – Queen Victoria used Birkhall as a residence for guests, and a young Princess Elizabeth resided there for a time before she ascended to the throne in 1952. It is the Queen Mother, however, with whom it will be forever associated. Having first moved into Birkhall in 1930, the Royal matriarch left her mark on her favourite home, planning the extensive gardens, and adding a new wing to the structure. |
During their first days together as man and wife the stunning setting of the Balmoral estate will ensure both privacy and the peaceful rural environment they both enjoy |
