Meg Ryan was beaming for a rare appearance in Los Angeles recently with her grown-up son who has followed in her footsteps.

Mother-of-two Meg, 64, who has largely stepped back from the spotlight in recent years, enjoyed a mother-son outing with her eldest child, son Jack, at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art Opening Night on 19 September.

Jack, 34, looked smart in a suit as he towered over his mother in photos from the evening. Meg was effortlessly elegant for the occasion in a timeless little black dress adorned with lace. The When Harry Met Sally star was the ultimate cool girl in a pair of round sunglasses with her signature blonde hair down to her shoulders.

Meg and her son Jack rarely make public appearances together, and were previously pictured back in 2017 attending a basketball game together in New York City.

Meg shares Jack with her ex, actor Dennis Quaid. She is also a mother to daughter Daisy True Ryan, 20, whom she adopted in 2006. If Meg's son looks familiar, it's probably because Jack has followed in both his famous parents' footsteps to become a successful actor.

Jack has followed in his mother's footsteps

The 34-year-old starred in the first Hunger Games movie in 2012 and has gone on to appear in the Scream franchise and the Oscar-winning movie Oppenheimer. But he's best known for his performance as Hughie Campbell in Prime Video's smash hit series, The Boys, which premiered in 2019 and concluded this year after a five-season run.

Along with saying goodbye to The Boys, it's been a big year for Jack who tied the knot with his long-time partner and co-star, Australian actress Claudia Doumit. The couple reportedly married in Claudia's native Australia in April, with both of Jack's parents said to be in attendance. Jack confirmed his marriage during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in June.

Two famous parents

The 'nepo baby' label is one that has been thrown around in Hollywood more and more in recent years. While Jack hails from a set of famous parents, Meg said the title was "so dismissive of his work ethic".

"Jack is really talented," she told Glamour Magazine

"He’s more of a natural than I’ll ever be," she added. "That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege."

In an interview with People, Jack recalled spending time as a child on film sets. "I grew up with friends who also had parents in the industry, so it didn't really feel different. But then you grow up, and you realize that's a pretty unique thing, that not one but two of your parents are actors. You don't realize that things are slightly abnormal until later."
