Ed Sheeran has had a whirlwind 18 months that have seen him sell over 10 million copies of his second album X, become the most streamed artist in the world on Spotify and perform three sell-out shows at Wembley Stadium, so it's no surprise that he is in need of a break.

The Thinking Out Loud singer, whose official concert film is released on Friday, has revealed he is planning to take some time out to "get back to normality" from December.

Ed Sheeran is planning on taking a break from December

Speaking to The Sun, Ed explained: "I'll put a post out saying, 'I'm with friends and family – if you love me you'll allow me to disappear for a few months and I'll speak to you in a bit.'

"I think a break for me is coming off my phone, social media and emails. I am constantly on my phone, texting, replying to emails, on Twitter, on Snapchat, on Facebook."

He continued: "I just want to get off it and live and drive to places and listen to music and have normal conversations with people and get back to normality. I've got a packed schedule, then, when December 12 comes, it's done."

The singer performed three shows at Wembley Stadium in July

While the 24-year-old will be out of the public eye for up to nine months, he does already have one special gig lined up – performing at the wedding of his friends Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid. Ed initially introduced the happy couple, and Courteney says it is only fitting that he should be the one to sing on their special day.

"We're certainly grateful to Ed for introducing us," the actress told The Sun in August. "I can't imagine him not playing something at the wedding."

Indeed Ed is gathering a reputation as the celebrity wedding singer of choice having pulled off a surprise performance at Ronan and Storm Keating's nuptials, featured exclusively in HELLO! in August. The singer also helped his friend Jake Roche propose to Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson with a special performance of their favourite song in July.
