Designers Down Under have been giving a sneak peek at the beach styles we can expect to be snapping up for 2006, with crisp, monochromatic numbers in black and white revealed as a hot new trend.

Aussie labels like Azzollini and department store David Jones, showing at the Sydney Spring/Summer 2006 Fashion Showcase, unveiled the sophisticated new edge of this year's "slashed" look, with clever tailoring that flatters as it reveals.

The barely-there mono-kini also remains a force to be reckoned with for next summer, putting in a smarter appearance at the David Jones show in bone white with black trim. Meanwhile clever detailing was evident at every turn, from Sixties-style loops to chain-effect linking.

And for those lucky enough to have the Bondi-beach physique to carry them off, there were some irresistible takes on the essential little black swimsuit from Michael Azzollini. The Australian designer, who is renowned for his head-turning cutaway suits, sent models down the sand-covered catwalk in some of next season's most covetable numbers.
