It's always exciting to check out the red carpet fashion moments at the BAFTAs. On Sunday evening, celebrities flocked to the Royal Festival Hall for the British Academy Television Awards 2026, and the sublime outfits on display did not disappoint.
A whole host of stars from the most talked-about TV shows, including Adolescence, This City is Ours, and The White Lotus, arrived in style. One lady who immediately caught our eyes was the mighty Claudia Winkleman, who delighted fans with a shocking new look.
The 54-year-old is a huge fan of the classic little black suit with an androgynous twist, but on Sunday, she switched it up, swapping tailored trousers for a pair of pedal pushers. Sticking to her trademark fashion ethos of a razor cut blazer and a white shirt, the pedal pushers gave her look a seriously modern kick, particularly as she expertly styled them with a pair of white stilettos.
Claudia has always been a trend-setter, not a fashion follower. Some industry professionals may feel that a dress is more appropriate for a formal red carpet, but Claudia shunned this notion in her latest look.
The return of pedal pushers
Many consider pedal pushers to be a divisive trend due to their distinctive retro stance. Created in the '50s, they were originally designed to be worn whilst cycling, but quickly became a summer staple over time. They gained notoriety in 2026 after being a big fixture at Paris Fashion Week, worn by a plethora of guests.
How to wear pedal pushers in your 50s like Claudia
"Claudia looked fabulous in her pedal pushers, and I think this is a great look for women of any age," fashion editor and stylist Julie Player tells HELLO!.
"I'm in my late 50s, and I remember wearing them in my teens. I had a white pair that I wore with a crop-top and sky-high heels. This summer, I'm planning on investing in a black pair and wearing them with a pair of kitten heels and a loose linen shirt for a slightly more '50s-inspired look," she reveals.
"I would personally avoid teaming pedal pushers with clumpy trainers or ballet flats - I think a little heel creates a less sporty, more elegant vibe," Julie notes. "Unless I'm on the beach, I always feel too exposed in thigh-skimming shorts, but pedal pushers offer more coverage and are practical too - especially when you are on your bike, obviously!"
