Princess Diana's workout outfits were ahead of their time. The late royal, who was married to King Charles for fifteen years, single-handedly made wearing sporty attire cool back in 1995. The stunning blonde was always snapped leaving her gym, the Chelsea Harbour Club, looking like the poster girl for glam gym wear.
She often teamed her trusty pair of cycling shorts with a variety of close-fit, boxy sweatshirts, a sleek, top-handled bag, and trainers. Despite having finished a workout, she always looked impossibly polished, and at the time, fans went wild for her dressed-down look.
Speaking of her array of sweatshirts, alongside her legendary 'Harvard' number, the other style that people loved to see was her navy blue Virgin Atlantic sweatshirt.
The original item worn by the royal was sold at a Boston-based RR Auction in 2019 for a monumental price of £43,000. It was donated by Diana's personal trainer, Jenni Rivett, who worked with the royal for over seven years.
The dark blue sweatshirt featured a screen-printed image of the Virgin Atlantic 'Flying Lady' logo. Diana was given the top by business magnate Richard Branson. She passed it on to Jenni shortly before her death, alongside a note that read: "Dearest Jenni, Lots of love from, Diana, x."
Jenni remarked on her royal client's decision to always wear the same Virgin top. Previously speaking on The Royal Box, she said: "Every single session, all the media were outside camped with their stepladders, and cameras and lenses and everything. For her, she just found it so incredible, 'Why are they so interested in me when there are more important things to worry about in the world?' It wasn't her who asked for all this. I remember one of her strategies was that she was going to wear the same Virgin Atlantic sweatshirt every single session."
Diana's sweatshirt is back for 2026
Virgin announced they had reintroduced the sweatshirt, and it's been met with huge excitement. "Almost 30 years after Princess Diana turned our navy Fly Virgin Atlantic sweatshirt into an off-duty favourite, we're bringing it back – this time, to make a difference in partnership with Save the Children," the website states.
The collector's piece retails at £59, with £10 going directly to the charity. Unsurprisingly, it has constantly sold out since it was released. This only further proves that Diana's fashion legacy lives on and is everlasting. It's been over 30 years since she donned the casual style, and the demand is higher than ever. We are waiting with bated breath for the restock…
