We've all heard of the unspoken royal fashion rules that the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex are bound by, but do these extend to those simply related to the royal family?
Judging by the late Princess Diana's twin nieces' latest appearance at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition preview party at Burlington House, the answer is no. Instead of adhering to modest hemlines that fall below the knee, Lady Amelia Spencer, 33, chose a stunning black mini dress featuring padded shoulders and a ruched, form-fitting skirt.
With her short skirt, the model showed off her risqué sheer lace tights, which paid homage to the lingerie trend that has been sweeping the fashion world for almost a year. Corset-style dresses, sheer overlays and lace-trimmed camis are some of the most popular ways to embrace the underwear-as-outerwear trend, but lace tights are another equally chic way to elevate any outfit.
And they're not new either. Victoria Beckham debuted the style back in 2023, layering the lace hosier from her eponymous label underneath a blazer mini dress. "The tights that *really* hold you in and give you the most incredible legs!! My VB Monogram Lace Tights are a huge part of my winter wardrobe right now. They’re so versatile and comfortable!” she captioned the post.
Years later, Taylor Swift proved they had not waned in popularity. For a date night in NYC in 2025, she sported an all-black look including a simple black wrap skirt, a fluffy knitted crew jumper and sheer tights.
Amelia, who is the daughter of Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer, and Victoria Aitken, accessorised her latest look with heels and styled her blonde hair in waves for an effortless evening glam. Meanwhile, her sister, Lady Eliza, looked equally as striking in her red maxi dress with silver sandals.
This marks a rare occasion when the sisters haven't chosen co-ordinating colours or silhouettes - they even chose matching robes to get ready for the Coward screening at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "We definitely have the same taste, so it's usually pretty easy to decide on our looks," Eliza exclusively told HELLO! in 2025. "We love having fun with it. The best part is that we always end up feeling in sync."
The twins were in good company at the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition, which explored the theme of 'Interconnectedness'. Lady Amelia Windsor turned heads in a bold pink halterneck dress, while Lily Allen looked resplendent in her tiered grey dress featuring a faux-fur lining.
