The X-Files star David Duchovny recently showed off his athletic prowess in the 15th annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon held near Los Angeles. And while he made it to the finish line – no doubt encouraged by his wife, actress Tea Leoni, who was eager to offer a congratulatory embrace – the sci-fi hunk was no match for US soap star Ingo Rademacher who took top honours at the benefit for the second year running.

After a half-mile swim, 41-year-old David did a quick change out of his wet suit – much to the excitement of gathered fans – for an18-mile bike ride followed by a four-mile run. Though David, who currently stars as a hand model in the Ben Stiller male-model romp Zoolander, may not have scored a medal at the annual event he was happy just to have completed the gruelling test of strength.

One onlooker says the Return To Me actor looked a bit weary rounding the last lap. “He looked exhausted. These events really take it out of you,” reports the insider. “But he kept at it and put a lot of younger competitors to shame.” David’ younger rivals included 90210 alum Ian Ziering and 24-year-old actor Ted Stryker.

The Malibu event raised funds for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
