Vera is about to return to screens, and we imagine you're just as excited to see the ever-charming DCI Vera Stanhope back in action as we are! (Of course, we can’t wait to catch up with her faithful sidekick Detective Sergeant Aiden Healy, either.) Brenda Blethyn will of course reprise her role as Vera, and the show is officially the longest-running, British-made female lead detective series ever to air on ITV. In the past, Brenda has made it clear just how much she loves playing the part of Vera, saying: "Doing Vera is like coming back to an old friend. I love the character, I'm so blessed to have been given the part."

But what can we expect from Vera and co in season ten? We did a little investigating…

Who will be in season ten?

With Brenda Blethyn back as Vera Stanhope and Kenny Doughty reprising his role as Detective Sergeant Aiden Healy, we can't wait to see who else will be returning for the tenth season of the hit show. We're pleased to report that the likes of DC Kenny Lockhart (played by Jon Morrison), DC Mark Edwards (played by Riley Jones), DC Jacqueline Williams (played by Ibinabo Jack) and Dr Malcolm Donahue (played by Paul Kaye) will all star in the newest season of Vera.

What will series ten be about?

As always, Vera will be getting to the bottom of some incredibly puzzling murder mysteries. Each episode will centre around a different crime investigation. For those that didn't know, Vera is actually inspired by the work of Ann Cleeves, a best-selling crime writer. The talented cast will be searching for clues in beautiful Northumberland, and the mysterious cases will take DC Vera and her collegaues all over the place. Aside from the classic village scenario, expect investigations to occur in a greyhound racing track and even a salmon farm!

In episode one, the team finds the body of a troubled entrepreneur when bailiffs try to repossess his home. It's not long before Vera unearths some dark family secrets that until now have been hidden...

How many episodes can we expect?

Excitingly, four feature-length episodes will make up the new series. From the strange tale of a man haunted by his DNA result test to a cold-blooded murder that took place during a botched burglary, there's plenty of gripping viewing for fans to look forward to.
