The official trailer for the highly anticipated adaptation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility has finally been released.
Daisy Edgar-Jones and George MacKay star in the upcoming production, which is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean) with a screenplay by novelist Diana Reid.
Austen's iconic novel, which has been hailed as "gripping" and a "iconic," follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood in Georgian-era England. Left destitute after the death of their father and forced to leave their family estate, the sisters must navigate society to find financial security and potential suitors.
The trailer offers a glimpse of Elinor and Marianne as they navigate love, heartbreak, and the pursuit of happiness. While Elinor finds herself drawn to the charming and dutiful Edward Ferrars, the impulsive Marianne is instantly smitten with John Willoughby after he saves her from a sudden downpour of rain.
With the film coming from the producers behind the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley, and 2020's Emma, led by Anya Taylor-Joy, Austen's beloved text is clearly in good hands.

What to expect from the upcoming adaptation
The film is billed as an "irresistible new take on Jane Austen’s iconic Sense and Sensibility".
The synopsis continues: "A charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed- Miles."
In an interview with Vogue, director Georgia Oakley emphasised her desire to create a story about "human beings."
"I'm a little bit sick of the sort of fetishisation of that time period," she explained. "And this idea that everybody spent, like, seven hours doing their hair and makeup, and everything was always pristine, and somebody was always waiting to help you out of your dress or whatever. I'm not a historian, but I don't buy all of it."
When will Sense and Sensibility be released?
Sense and Sensibility arrives in UK cinemas on 25 September 2026.
Previous adaptations of Sense and Sensibility
Austen's 1811 masterpiece has been adapted for the screen several times over the years.
Arguably, the most beloved version remains Ang Lee's 1995 Oscar-winning film, which starred Emma Thompson as Elinor and Kate Winslet as Marianne. In 2008, Andrew Davies adapted the novel for a three-part BBC series starring Hattie Morahan and Charity Wakefield.
