Meet Suzy Amis

Susan Elizabeth Amis, better known as Suzy, was born on January 5, 1962. She started out working a model with the Ford agency, before transitioning to a career in acting in the '80s.

Suzy made her debut in 1985 comedy Fandango opposite Kevin Costner, followed by roles in Rocket Gibraltar (1988), Where the Heart Is (1990) and Rich in Love (1992).

She met James Cameron while on the set of Titanic

Meet cute with James

While on set for the 1997 feature, Suzy met Titanic director James Cameron. The pair didn't get romantically involved until after filming had finished. He told The Guardian in 2017, "As a matter of fact, Suzy and I, we were very attracted to each other when we first met." Despite their feelings, the director said he didn't believe it was a good idea to be romantically involved with someone he was directing. James added, "I think about 10 seconds after we were done filming, well, you know."

At the time, he was reportedly on a break from his relationship with Linda Hamilton, who the director was then living with. The pair reconciled, married and subsequently divorced – with James returning to Suzy. It was a decision his ex-wife Linda, according to a 2009 interview with The New Yorker, could see the sense in: "In the end, it was an eight-month marriage, and he went off with someone who's much better suited to him." The couple tied the knot in 2000.

Kids

James and Suzy are parents to five children between them. They welcomed three daughters together, Claire, Quinn and Elizabeth Rose, and expanded their family in October 2020 by petitioning to be permanent guardians to one of their daughter's friends. The couple had been granted temporary guardianship earlier in the year and the teenager had reportedly been living with them since September 2019.

Suzy is also a mother to son Jasper Robards, who she shares with actor Sam Robards. Sam and Suzy met on the set of her first feature Fandango and were married between 1986 and 1994.

Suzy has stepped back from acting

What's she doing now?

Suzy took on her last role in 1999's sci-fi action hit Judgement Day and subsequently retired from Hollywood completely. Nowadays, she's focussing her energy on environmental activism and sustainable fashion.

She still regularly appears in support of her husband's projects, joining him to attend the 2023 Critics Choice Awards and beaming for the cameras.
