Elle Macpherson just revealed the secret to how she keeps her teeth perfectly white

Elle Macpherson is known as 'the body' for her unbelievably svelte figure, but have you ever noticed her perfect smile? The 54-year-old model has the whitest of white teeth – the kind of teeth we'd all swap our own for. Now the mum-of-two has revealed the daily ritual she does to maintain her stunning smile, and it's not what you'd expect. Elle told US talk show Megyn Kelly Today that she's a firm believer in 'oil pulling'.

The star revealed how she swirls a spoonful of coconut oil around her mouth for 10 minutes every morning. She said the practice has 'done wonders' for her gums and teeth and it helps the body expel toxins through the mouth. Who knew?

Gwyneth Paltrow is another famous fan of the traditional tooth treatment. She previously told E!: "I use coconut oil a lot. I do on my face, on my skin and in my cooking. And I just started oil pulling, which is when you swish coconut oil around [in your mouth] for 20 minutes, and it's supposed to be great for oral health and making your teeth white. It's supposed to clear up your skin, as well."

Elle has recently spoken about her diet, telling New Beauty that she experienced a change in her body when she turned 50. She said: "I started to put on weight around my waist and hips, which was never my thing before. My legs started to get heavy. I started to feel lethargic. I also didn’t feel inspired. I wasn’t sleeping. My whole energy felt heavy.”

Elle enlisted the help of nutritionist Simone Laubscher on the recommendation of a friend, who suggested she change her diet to a plant-based alkaline one. The model revealed how she discovered that her sun sports were actually 'sugar spots' and they soon started to clear with her new diet. She also began to lose weight and her digestion improved.

As far as exercise goes, Elle recently told PopSugar: "Every morning before I rise I think about what is it that my body really needs. It might be a walk along the beach, swim in the ocean, wake boarding, a boxing class or yoga with friends. I believe mixing things up is fun and helps with motivation and activating different areas of the body. Do what suits you."
