2020 was a difficult year for us all, but especially so for new mums. Speaking to HELLO! about what it’s been like raising a baby during lockdown, former The Only Way Is Essex star and Results Wellness Lifestyle founder Lucy Mecklenburgh revealed that "it’s been very tough, but it’s also put a lot of things into perspective for all of us."

"My individual journey through these crazy nine months has seen me become a mum, and yes, I feel like I’ve missed out on things and, yes, it’s been really difficult at times, doing a lot on my own, especially without family and friends able to come over, but I’ve also really appreciated going back to basics.

She added "every milestone that [my baby] Roman has hit, me and Ryan [Thomas] have watched together. I think we’ve all learnt some lessons over the last few months, and one of those was to really appreciate what we’ve got."

Wanting to use her social media for good, Lucy has been using Instagram to uplift other mums during lockdown. "It's really important to share the good, the bad and the ugly on social media. Of course you can share gorgeous pictures but I also think it’s really important to show real mum life, like getting zero hours sleep, having to function the next day and juggling work with being a full-time mum. Sharing every aspect gives so much support to other mums who might have become disillusioned seeing accounts that look so perfect all the time.

"Roman turned things upside down for me, so if there’s a sleep deprived mum that’s feeling a bit down, looking at my honest Instagram post could change the rest of the day. I’ve always thought we have to be so careful, especially when we’ve got a large following, with what messages we’re sending. For me, it’s about making mums feel good and like they’re not alone."

Lucy's hope for 2021 is that "everything will be a little more back to normal. I’m looking forward to some normal family time and being able to do a bit more with Roman.” We hope so, too!
