Late actress Anne Heche may have been celebrated for her fearless Hollywood career, but she was also a dedicated mother to her two sons

Best known for films including Wag the Dog and a string of acclaimed television performances, Anne welcomed Homer Heche Laffoon and Atlas Heche Tupper in the early 2000s, with her ex-husband Coley Laffoon and her previous partner James Tupper after her divorce.

The actress tragically died in August 2022 at the age of 53 following a devastating car accident that left her in a coma, prompting an outpouring of tributes from Hollywood and beyond.

Away from red carpets and film sets, she shared glimpses of family life and spoke openly about how deeply motherhood changed her perspective. Now, years after her death, she remains a pivotal part of both boys' lives. Let's meet them…

Anne gave birth to her eldest son, Homer Heche Laffoon, on 2 March 2002, during her marriage to Coley Laffoon.

Over the years, Homer, 24, regularly accompanied his mother to public events, including one of their final red carpet appearances together in 2021 at Christian Siriano’s book launch.

The late star also frequently shared family moments online with Homer and her younger son, Atlas, once calling herself the "luckiest mom" after attending a sports game with them.

Speaking to People in 2009 after Atlas was born, Anne praised Homer for embracing his role as an older brother. "It’s hard to share attention... but he’s really found his stride now and he’s very protective of him," she said.

Following Anne’s death in 2022, Homer took responsibility for handling his late mother’s estate and shared an emotional statement about laying her to rest at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

"My brother Atlas and I want to thank... everyone at Hollywood Forever for their kindness, compassion and generosity of spirit," the statement read. It continued: "We are convinced our Mom would love the site we have chosen for her."

He later became administrator of the estate after court proceedings involving Anne’s former partner, James and decisions surrounding her personal belongings and final projects.

Anne welcomed Atlas Heche Tupper with James on 7 March 2009. After his birth, Anne described Atlas as an easy-going and happy baby, telling People: "He’s just so easy I can’t believe it. He cracks a smile every time he opens his eyes and he’s a real bundle of joy."

The actress often said becoming a mother for the second time allowed her to appreciate parenthood in a calmer, more meaningful way. "I think that helps as a mom, to be able to really take in the experience in maybe just a little bit slower way," she explained while reflecting on raising Atlas.

Like his older brother Homer Heche Laffoon, Atlas occasionally joined his mother at public events, while also appearing regularly on her Instagram page.

In January 2023, following the release of Anne’s memoir Call Me Anne, Atlas publicly spoke about his mother for the first time since her death. "My mom was the brightest person I’ve ever known," he said.

"She always knew how to solve a problem or help a friend... I cannot put into words how grateful I am or how much I miss her."
