Young Danish royals Christian and Isabella enchanted by Christmas performance

Youngsters Prince Christian and Princess Isabella of Denmark got an early festive treat from mum Crown Princess Mary on Saturday when they attended a Christmas ballet in Copenhagen.

With grandmother Queen Margrethe also alongside them, four-year-old Christian and Isabella, two, looked utterly enchanted by the performance of the traditional Danish play Elverhoej (Elves' Hill).

Showing herself as the ever-attentive mum, Mary at one point placed a comforting arm around young Isabella as they watched the action unfold. Queen Margrethe later joined the cast on stage to be applauded by her two young grandchildren and the rest of the audience.

And they weren't the only royals enjoying a festive theatre trip at the weekend. Princess Caroline of Monaco, alongside her brother Albert and eldest children, Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre, was special host at a gala ballet evening in Monte Carlo on Sunday.

After the performance, dance-lover Caroline, who has returned to her duties as First Lady since coming back to the Principality from Paris in September, posed with her friend, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Held to celebrate 100 years of the Russian ballet , the gala forms part of the traditionally busy programme of Christmas events that the Monegasque royals have celebrated every year since the days of the late Princess Grace.

Giving gifts to the sick, visiting the elderly in care homes and a football tournament are among the other seasonal activities in which the Grimaldi family normally participate.
