On the third day of The Royal Windsor Horse Show, Queen Elizabeth II was all smiles as she enjoyed the sunshine with friends.

Her majesty looked casual at the event as she wore a green tartan skirt with a pale blue blouse, aqua blue cardigan and a royal blue gillet.

The 88-year-old Queen is an experienced horse rider with much knowledge of equestrian matters, and looked like she was in her element as she inspected the programme and watched the action alongside fellow horse enthusiasts, and the Royal Windsor Horse Show has a large selection of events taking place for the Queen to watch.

The Retrained Racehorse Challenge Championship and Shetland Pony Grand National were due to take place on Friday morning, while the afternoon included a Musical Ride of The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment before a Musical Drive of The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, which will take place on Friday evening.

On Wednesday, the Queen watched her horse

Tower Bridge compete in the Novice Heavyweight Hunter class, while participants in the show were also seen exercising their horses along the River Thames and others basked in the sunshine and enjoyed the rides in the nearby fairground.

The Queen has grown up around horses and has shown no signs of giving up one of her favourite pastimes. Just last month the much-loved royal was snapped going for a ride with her head groom Terry Pendry. For the outing Her Majesty chose her fell pony Carltonlima Emma, who is reportedly one of her favourite mounts. The Queen has about 25 animals or so, and is also a keen breeder, often buying horses from Kentucky to maintain lineage.
