Why Princess Beatrice's birthday will be extra special this year

Just days ahead of Princess Beatrice's 38th birthday, sister Princess Eugenie welcomed a baby daughter, making Beatrice an aunt to a niece for the very first time.

Happy birthday to Princess Beatrice, whose 38th birthday celebrations carry an extra touch of sweetness. Just days before the Princess turned a year older, her younger sister, Princess Eugenie, welcomed her third child – a baby girl.

Having already been a doting aunt to Eugenie's two sons, August and Ernest, the arrival of a baby girl marks the first time Beatrice has become an aunt to a niece.

With both aunt and baby sharing an August birthday month – as well as the Leo star sign – the new addition to the family makes this year's birthday particularly special for Beatrice.

Meanwhile, last year's celebrations were also significant, marking Beatrice's first birthday as a mother of two. The royal and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, had welcomed their second child together - Athena Elizabeth Rose – in January that year.

The couple's eldest daughter, Sienna, was born in September 2021, while property developer Edoardo also has a ten-year-old son, Wolfie, from his previous relationship with Dara Huang.

Keeping out of the spotlight

Eugenie and Beatrice, who are granddaughters of the late Queen Elizabeth II, have largely kept out of the spotlight this year following the latest developments surrounding their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor

The royal will no doubt celebrate privately with her family

Earlier this year, the former Duke of York left his Windsor home following a public outcry over his "peppercorn rent" and moved to the Sandringham estate. He was later arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office before being released.

The sisters were also absent from the traditional royal Easter Sunday gathering, with King Charles understood to have agreed to their absence amid the ongoing scrutiny surrounding their father.

A united front with Edoardo

Edo and Beatrice were recently faced with rumours of marriage difficulties back in March and have yet to address them publicly. Back in March, friends of the pair told HELLO! that rumours of marital strife between the pair were "not true at all", saying they were navigating "busy jobs and looking after their children".

In July, Edo and Beatrice put on a united display as they attended Harriet and Peter Phillips' wedding alongside senior members of the royal family. The couple also shared a selfie during a trip to Greece, as they enjoyed a European summer break together.
