It's no secret that Lady Louise Windsor inherited her love of carriage driving from her late grandfather, Prince Philip.

The St Andrew's graduate, 22, has previously revealed how the pair bonded over their love of the sport and how he took her for her first-ever carriage ride as a young girl.

But it was her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whom the equestrian resembled on Saturday when she competed in the Final Meet of the Carriage Driving Season in Windsor Great Park.

Lady Louise was photographed giving her beautiful horse some TLC and tending to its nose.

For the outing, Louise was clad in her driving gear, wearing a large grey overcoat, grey skinny jeans and walking boots, not forgetting her riding helmet.

The images were strikingly similar to countless others of her late grandmother, who was often photographed affectionately petting her beloved horses.

Queen Elizabeth did occasionally take part in carriage driving herself, including alongside her sister, Princess Margaret, and solo in her great-grandmother Queen Alexandra's carriage, in the grounds of Windsor Castle in 1944.

Louise's love of horse carriage driving

Carriage driving has become a defining passion for Lady Louise, the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, who made her eventing debut five years ago and now regularly competes.

As previously mentioned, her participation in the sport carries on a proud family legacy inspired by Prince Philip. After retiring from polo in 2003, the Duke of Edinburgh took up carriage driving in his 50s and remained an avid competitor well into his 90s.

Sara Howe, who owns and runs the Bradbourne Riding & Training Centre in Sevenoaks, exclusively told HELLO! previously that Louise is doing "very well" when it comes to the sport.

She told us: "I think she's doing extremely well with the time and the commitment of everything else she has to do. She's a pleasure to work with."

"She certainly tries. She gets frustrated when it goes wrong, as the rest of us do. So she still goes home and practises and comes back, and there's an improvement. She looks more than good."
