Savannah Guthrie kicked off Today on June 16 alongside Willie Geist, who was covering while Craig Melvin was on assignment.
Sheinelle Jones later joined the pair for PopStart as they ran through the latest showbiz headlines, including one that took Savannah completely by surprise.
Madonna's hit song, "Music," began playing at the start of the segment. "That's a banger, Madonna's Grammy-nominated hit," Savannah began, as she turned to her co-host.
"Why are we playing this song, Sheinelle?" she asked. Sheinelle replied: "Well, on that note, coming up a little later in PopStart, we're going to check out the icon's new song and video featuring a fellow pop star - by the way, who was just one when that song "Music" was released back in 2000."
"Wow," Willie exclaimed, while Savannah emphasised: "Wow, that hurts!" She added: "We're right there with you Madonna."
Madonna, 67, and Sabrina Carpenter, 27, have collaborated on a new music video, "Bring Your Love", which was released on June 15. The video was released ahead of Madonna's album Confessions II, which comes out on July 3.
The Today Show covers a wide range of topics, from the latest news headlines, celebrity interviews and lifestyle segments ranging from fashion to cooking.
The show - which has been running since January 1952 - is watched by dedicated fans invested not only in the program but also in the hosts.
The Today stars are good friends away from work, and are incredibly supportive of each other through the good and bad times.
Over the past six months, the show has been supporting Savannah following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was last seen on January 31.
Savannah took a leave of absence off work to be with her family, returning on April 6. On June 8, the star opened up about her decision to return and just how important her work colleague were to her during an appearance on the Fourth Hour alongside Jenna Bush Hager.
"I'm happy to be back. It's two hours of my day. I am thinking about it, but it's something to do and it brings me a lot of joy to be with everybody. But it's not easy," she said.
The star added: "I know people maybe wonder what's going on, how is she able to do that job, how is she not thinking about it, did she forget? No, never, never."
Jenna echoed her sentiment: "And neither have we. We have your back and be with you forever with this. We will never forget." Savannah then urged viewers: "We still need everybody's prayers. For someone to call with what they know."
