Tom Cruise turned 64 on Friday, July 3. The Mission Impossible star is one of the most recognizable men on the planet, but to his three children, he's just dad.
The actor who rose to stratospheric fame thanks to his early roles as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell in 1986's Top Gun and as Charlie Babbitt in the 1998 Oscar-winning movie Rain Man, has a close relationship with his children Bella, 33, and Connor Cruise, 31, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman, but is reportedly estranged from his daughter Suri Cruise, 20, who he shares with Katie Holmes.
Here's everything Tom has said about being a dad to Bella, Connor, and Suri.
Tom's relationship with Bella and Connor
Tom Cruise married his second wife, Nicole, in 1990 after meeting and falling in love on the set of Days of Thunder. After going through fertility challenges, they decided to adopt and, in 1992, they welcomed their daughter, Bella, into the family.
Shortly after, the couple also adopted Connor. And while Tom is notoriously private about his children, there are hints about his close relationship with his two older children.
In December 2024, the actor made a rare appearance with Bella and Connor, shared to Instagram by the former NFL player Derrick Brooks.
In the photo, Tom posed with his hand in his pocket and stood in the front next to Derrick, who was in between the star and his son Connor. Towards the back of the group photo, Bella peeked her head over the shoulder of another woman, smiling as she looked into the camera.
A few years earlier, the Top Gun actor attended a Los Angeles Dodgers game with Connor. He was photographed sitting next to his son in the stands and kept warm in a navy jacket while his son opted for a black-and-white baseball hat and a black hoodie.
Additionally, unlike his youngest daughter, Bella and Connor are active Scientologists, and have been spotted on rare occasions with their father in recent years.
Suri Cruise's estrangement from Tom
In 2006, Tom welcomed daughter Suri with his third wife Katie. The couple were married for six years until 2012, when the Dawson's Creek actress filed for divorce and moved to the East Coast to raise Suri in New York.
And at the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning premiere in May 2025, he was asked by E! News what an ideal Father's Day would look like. The star gave an unexpectedly awkward response to the question.
"You know..." he began, before answering, "Just having fun, man." He added: "Making movies, big adventures, having a great time."
While the actor didn't mention any of his children, Suri has decided to pave her own path. The 20-year-old attends Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania and often returns home to New York to visit her mother, whom she is incredibly close with.
The budding vocalist opted to drop Tom's last name during her high school graduation in 2024, instead taking Katie's middle name, Noelle, as her surname.
Many have speculated that Tom's high status in the Church of Scientology has led to an estrangement from his daughter, as the Church asks members to cut contact with those who have "disconnected."
