David Muir says his 'heart is full' in intimate look at life away from World News Tonight


The celebrated journalist took time away from his career with a rare update

David Muir is enjoying some well deserved time away from his busy work schedule, and it looks positively dreamy. 

The World News Tonight anchor shared a with fans when he took them inside his glorious Italian vacation. 

David looked very different from his polished on-air appearance as he wore casual attire while exploring what the European country had to offer.

Taking to Instagram he shared several snapshots of his getaway and confessed in the caption that his "heart is full."

He said he was "still smiling," and his 20/20 co-host Deborah Roberts was one of the first to weigh in. 

"You went to my happy place," she remarked.

It appeared that David was traveling with his and their mom Pat.

They featured in several photos where they both looked to be reveling in the culture of the country.

David prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight, meaning fans were even more thrilled to get insight into his life away from the cameras. 

David has spoken openly about his upbringing and childhood which was not like other kids

David Muir was born to his father, Ronald Muir, and mother, Pat Mills on 8 November 1973, however they divorced when David was young.

But despite their separation, David's parents raised him together.

They were extremely encouraging of his dream to become a news anchor and journalist and would drive him to the local studios in Syracuse, New York, to intern from an early age. 

David told Syracuse.com: "When most kids go off to do other things, I remember just begging them to take me to that TV station. 

"I'm sure they dreaded it. Between the two of them, they had to get me there. To this day, I'm grateful they would drive me to 980 James St."

His older sister, Rebecca, runs a farm in Borodino, New York, and David refers to his host of nieces and nephews as his "squad".

While he never discusses having a partner in life, he adores his gundog Axel, who he regularly shares photos of. 

In addition, he has a wide circle of friends, including his best pal, Kelly Ripa

He and Kelly are very close

David is a firm fixture in her and her husband Mark Consuelos' life and is like an uncle to their three grown kids, Joaquin, Lola and Michael.  

Showing just how much he means to her, Kelly paid a heartfelt tribute to David in her book, Live Wire and the message is included on a page of acknowledgements.

It reads: "To David Muir, you are the backbone and moral compass I need sometimes."
