David Muir is making the best of a relaxing weekend by his lakeside home.
When the ABC News anchor, 52, is not jet-setting around the world or reporting from the Disney-owned network's headquarters in the heart of New York City, he's spending time at his home in upstate New York.
In 2019, David purchased a gorgeous 4,300 sq.ft estate in Skaneateles, a beautiful lakeside home which he personally renovated and revamped to his liking, reportedly bought for $7 million.
He maintains the home as his primary residence outside of the city, shared with his German short-haired pointer Axel, and provided a stunning glimpse of it on his Instagram page over the weekend.
David Muir's weekend by the lake
On Sunday, July 12, David posted a clip of the lake by his home in the evening, with the lights from homes across the water illuminating the night as ducks swam by. "Nobody wants the weekend to end," the text alongside his clip read.
He then included another shot of Axel peering at the water from the home's boardwalk around sunset hour, one more beautiful shot of the natural beauty around his home.
The ABC News anchor's life in nature
New York has always been home to the World News Tonight host, who was born and raised in Syracuse and graduated from Ithaca College. Aside from a three-year stint in Boston with WCVB Television before joining ABC News in 2003, David has primarily also spent his professional life in the state.
But being outside in nature, near the beauty of upstate New York is where the news anchor has always felt most at home, telling as much to People in a recent interview. "I'd say my most comfortable element is being outside, covered in mud like this weekend," he recalled of a particular holiday weekend. "It was pouring rain and I loved every second of it."
Speaking of how much it suits not just him, but also Axel. "I have a German short-haired pointer, and for him, the biggest event of the weekend was discovering there was a beaver who had begun to build a dam inside the little boathouse," he remembered fondly.
"So I spent more time at nightfall standing on the dock with the dog who was waiting for a glimpse of this beaver coming out of the boathouse than I did doing anything else."
David continued to gush: "When you're out there on the lake, smelling the same air that you smelled when you were on your BMX bike back when you were a kid, there's something really fueling about that and connected about it."
How David's dog Axel became more famous than him
"You just feel like you're home again. I couldn't have been happier." Apparently, it's gotten to the point that Axel's fame has eclipsed his own. "I have a dog walker who has been with me for six years now."
"And so I love the stories of even when the dog walker is out in public, people will say, 'Is that David Muir's dog?' It kind of puts it all in perspective. The dog is always the most important," he quipped.
"I think [he's] more [famous]. He deserves to be. And he has no idea which makes it even more special."
