Even when Craig Melvin is working, he's always checking in on his family. However, there appeared to be a different reason he called his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, during the commercial break on the September 4 episode of the Today Show.
The NBC star FaceTimed his wife to tell her that American singer-songwriter Riley Green was performing on the plaza. "If there was ever a reason to skip school, Riley Green tops the list," said Laura Jarret to her co-star following the commercial break. "I was just FaceTiming my wife and children and you heard what she said, 'Oh Riley Green,'" said Craig.
"She's a fan. She said she loves his music," replied Laura as she made playful speech gestures with her hands. "Yeah, the music," laughed Craig.
The topic came up after the hosts discussed the excitement in Studio 1A over Riley’s arrival, mentioning how many of the female crew members had a crush on him.
Inside Craig Melvin's marriage
Craig and his wife, Lindsay, met while both working at NBC Washington, with Craig enlisted as a news anchor in 2008 and Lindsay boasting the title of sports anchor. The pair tied the knot in 2011 with a wedding in Washington D.C. – the city where they met – at the Church of the Holy City. They later welcomed their son, Delano, in 2014, and their daughter, Sybil, in 2016.
According to Realtor.com, the family's home in Connecticut is worth an estimated $6.2 million and with six bedrooms and a whole host of amenities, it's not surprising. While Craig is from Columbia, SC, he relocated to Westport, CT, from Washington, DC, almost a decade ago when he joined Today.
Lindsay herself is an Emmy-winning broadcaster and has covered the likes of Fox Sports and ESPN. The anchor also has her own podcast titled The Artist and the Athlete with Lindsay Czarniak. She has previously covered for Dylan Dreyer on the Third Hour of Today. Last year, she appeared alongside her husband on the show.
However, Craig was apprehensive about sharing the spotlight with the mother of his two kids. Opening up the third hour of the show, Lindsay gushed: "It's so great to be here."
An unsure Craig responded: "Is it great?." Lindsay clapped back at her husband and asked: "Why do you say that."
Al Roker then chimed in on the conversation and shared what had occurred moments before the cameras began rolling. "Just before we started Craig looked over at Lindsay and said 'have you read your script', like she's not a professional," revealed Al. Lindsay explained how her husband was cautious of her sharing the screen with him. "He's very nervous about me taking things off the rails," she said.
"I just have to say I was in makeup and they brought out these contraptions that both of you guys use with their names on it. The face roller, it's freezing as it was in the freezer," she added.
