If Adam Brody were to ever propose to Leighton Meester again, he might add a little more romance this time around.
The Nobody Wants This actor and Gossip Girl alum have been married since 2014, and are parents to two children, daughter Arlo, 11, and a son born in 2020 whose name they have decided to keep private.
Though they initially briefly met in 2007, the couple got engaged less than a year into dating, which the The O.C. alum now says he might have done differently.
Speaking on the Monday, October 26, episode of the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard with his Nobody Wants This co-stars, who were discussing how their own proposals went down, Adam confessed: "I'll spare the details. However, rest assured, it was not as romantic as it should have been."
"The only thing romantic about it was the speed," he said, adding: "Meaning, like, I proposed pretty quickly into our relationship. We got married fast, but other than that, it was very pedestrian."
Neither Adam nor Leighton have shared many details about their proposal or wedding, which reportedly was a secret, private ceremony in Northern California early in 2014.
Reflecting on what he learned from his own quickie proposal, he shared: "I've learned, the thing is, you know, at the time, you're like, whatever, but you're going to tell that story the rest of your life," and suggested: "Do it not even just for the moment, but for the story that you're going to tell forever."
His co-star Timothy Simons did however note to Adam: "I can see that from you being like, 'Yeah, we love each other. Let's just get married. Why are we going to do all this [expletive?' You what I mean? Like, 'Let's just do it. Let's just [expletive] do the thing.'"
Still, Adam maintained: "There's that. And yet, and yet, I do kick myself a little," emphasizing that "she deserved a little more."
Back in February 2025, Adam won Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Critics Choice Awards for his role as rabbi Noah Roklov in Nobody Wants This, which Leighton featured in for season two.
"My darling, darling, darling wife Leighton," he said during his acceptance speech. "Thank you for sharing this life with me and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. I love you with all my heart."
Nobody Wants This, which its third season is now on Netflix, has not been renewed for a third season, though creator Erin Foster has shared she does have more story to tell.
