Actress Gemma Arterton has hailed her new role in vampire film Byzantium one of female empowerment.
Bond girl Gemma plays a 200 year-old vampire prostitute alongside The Lovely Bones' Saoirse Ronan, who plays the role of her daughter.
Gemma has thanked Moira Buffini, the scriptwriter of the film, for her fantastic input and strong female characters.
The actress, 26, said: "I can't thank her enough for writing such a great opportunity for both Saoirse and I. We are leads in the movie and not many films allow both leads to be female, so it's a real female empowerment movie."
The Wrath of the Titans star also relished playing a vampire.
She said: "It's just the most wonderful character, I loved playing her. She's multi-faceted, ferocious and a merciless killer, but she's also a maternal, loving, protective mother and I just adore playing her."
