Ricky Gervais: Twitter is 'undignified' for adults

Friday January 15, 2010

It seems nearly every celebrity is on Twitter.

From Stephen Fry to Queen Rania of Jordan and Paris Hilton, famous faces are busy sharing moments from their day with followers across the globe.

But there is one star who is not a fan of the micro-blogging site - comedian Ricky Gervais.

Writing on his blog, the 48-year-old announced that after a short trial he was leaving Twitter, branding it "pointless".

"I just don't get it I'm afraid," the Reading-born actor, who is hosting Sunday's Golden Globes, wrote.

"I'm sure it's fun as a networking device for teenagers but there's something a bit undignified about adults using it."

"Particularly celebrities who seem to be showing off by talking to each other in public. If I want to tell a friend, famous or otherwise, what I had to eat this morning, I'll text them."

"And since I don’t need to make new virtual friend, it seemed a bit pointless to be honest," he added.
