Comedian Eddie Izzard took a break from running marathons to carry the Olympic Torch 300 yards as it continues its journey around the UK.
Eddie enjoyed his stretch along England's south coast as part of a relay team that carried the torch from Pevensey Bay to Bexhill on Sea.
The 50-year-old's run marked the start of the 10-day countdown before the torch reaches London on July 27 for the Opening Ceremony.
The actor tweeted his excited about the event saying “Happen to be running with a certain torch in Bexhill on Tuesday!” After the run he claimed “It’s a beautiful experience I didn’t think there would be so much excitement, it’s been great fun but I didn’t realise it would be over so quickly.”
Having previously run 43 marathons, he joked that “This run was far easier.”
The residents of Bexhill were prasied by their MP, Greg Barker, who said “It’s great to see Bexhill getting into the Olympic spirit and I’m absolutely sure this will be the greatest games ever.”
Eddie shared in this enthusiasm for the Games saying “It’s great the feeling is great, the crowds are very excited and it’s great for the UK.”
Eddie joins a number of celebrities who have held the role of offical torchbearer for the Olympics, including: Spice girl Mel C, actor James McAvoy, chef Jamie Oliver and musicians will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas, The Wanted, Muse and John Legend.
