The pink silk, spiralling hat that caused a stir when Princess Beatrice wore it to the royal wedding has fetched over £80,000 at auction on eBay.

Forty bidders in total vied for the creation.

Dragons' Den star Duncan Bannatyne offered £5,000, and Australian performers The Wiggles chipped in with a £17,500 offer.  

But the winning bid came in at a staggering £81,101, with the identity of the bidder not yet revealed by eBay.

The 22-year-old granddaughter of the Queen put the much-talked about fascinator on sale to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Crisis.

On the eBay page the Princess has commented: "I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted.

"It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities.

"I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."
