The Story:
“It’s very hard to make a movie about intellectual activity,” says Rolling Stones front man and Enigma producer Mick Jagger. “It’s even hard to do a movie about painters. What are they doing? Painting. This could have been a movie about guys sitting in rooms with pencils.” Luckily for Mick it’s not.
The Michael Apted-directed Enigma wowed audiences at this year’s Sundance Film festival despite its weighty subject matter. Oscar nominee Kate Winslet and Scottish heart-throb Dougray Scott star as top-level British code-breakers at Bletchley Park racing against time to crack the German naval code during World War II. Based on Robert Harris’s best-selling novel, the film captures the energy and desperation of the times with a powerhouse script from Oscar winner Tom Stoppard and equally stirring performances.
“It’s not just about code-breaking. It’s about love,” assures Mick. “And it’s got some underlying moral questions also about how many lives can be lost for the greater good.”
Enigma opens across the UK on September 28.
