Hollywood favourite Meg Ryan, who has been keeping a relatively low profile in recent months, has been enjoying some time in New York with her son Jack Henry. Passers-by spotted the When Harry Met Sally star this week as she strolled through the city's streets with her favourite 13-year-old.

Casually dressed in a floral skirt with t-shirt and sandals, the 43-year-old seemed relaxed and content as she chatted with the teenager. It would appear Jack has a passion for heavy metal, as he was sporting a t-shirt bearing the logo of legendary Aussie rockers AC/DC.

During the Nineties Meg was one of Tinseltown's most prolific stars, but since her split from Jack's father, Dennis Quaid, five years ago she has taken a step back from the pressures of life in the limelight. That's not to say the performer hasn't been keeping busy. Just last year she provoked a storm of controversy with her appearance in the explicit indie production In The Cut.

Movie fans can look forward to seeing much more of Meg in the months ahead, as she's recently signed up to appear in two new films. In The Tortilla Curtain she stars opposite Kevin Costner in a drama about two families who find themselves at odds, while Papa sees her teaming up with Nick Nolte in a semi-fictional tale about the legendary writer Ernest Hemingway.
