The Belgian royal family are the final remaining ruling branch of the historical House of Wettin, which has in the past seen members ascend thrones in the UK, Portugal and Mexico (to name a few).

Latest developments

King Albert II abdicated on 21 July 2013, leading to his son, Crown Prince Philippe becoming King.

Hereditary Archduke Amedeo married Elisabetta Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein in February 2014. The couple have two children, Anna (born May 2016) and Maximilian (born September 2019).
