Matt Robinson has been called the "father of justice" after reportedly turning in his son, Tyler Robinson, who is accused of shooting and killing Charlie Kirk. On Friday, President Donald Trump confirmed to Fox News that Charlie Kirk's shooter was placed in police custody after "someone that was very close to him turned him in". Trump shared that a "minister who was involved with law enforcement" helped in his capture and they believe "with a high degree of certainty" that they have the correct suspect.

"I hope he's gonna be found guilty, I would imagine, and I hope he gets the death penalty for what he did. What he did – Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this," he shared. Many took to social media to praise Matt for turning in his 22-year-old son. "Matt Robinson is a good father who did the right thing. Probably horrific to have to make that choice about your child but I'd like to think that teaching your children that actions have consequences is important. You can love your child but still do the right thing when you know they've done wrong," penned one social media user.

According to reports, Matt recognized the suspect in FBI-released photographs and subsequently turned his son in to the police.

"The person, most probably his father, was involved with law enforcement, but was a person of faith, a minister, and brought him to a US Marshal who was fantastic. They drove into the police headquarters, and he’s there now. We have the person that we think is the person we’re looking for." Trump said, as quoted by the BBC, citing Fox News.

Charlie Kirk was shot in front of crowds in Utah

Tyler Robinson’s father, Matt Robinson, is reportedly a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Tyler’s mother, Amber Jones Robinson, reportedly works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services, an organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities access care.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox shared that a family member recounted how, during a family dinner before the shooting, Tyler mentioned that Charlie was coming to Utah Valley University. "They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints that he had," the governor said, adding that the suspect said that "Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate."

At the press conference, the governor revealed that a family member of Tyler’s contacted a family friend, saying that Tyler had "confessed to them or implied" his involvement in the shooting.

The FBI released four photos of the suspect, who was seen wearing a black long-sleeved T-shirt with an American flag, carrying a black backpack, and sporting Converse sneakers, dark sunglasses, and a baseball cap.

The family’s social media reveals Tyler, who has two younger brothers, enjoying vacations and sharing smiling selfies –  including posts celebrating his acceptance into college. He resides in a $600,000 six-bedroom home in Washington, Utah, located about 260 miles south of Charlie’s assassination in Orem.
